Your First Transactions

With an account created, the next step is to record what is actually in it. Alex opens the Checking account by clicking the arrow next to it, then clicks New Transaction.

The Opening Balance

The first transaction Alex records is the current balance of the checking account — not a real transaction, but a starting point for FundOS to work from. Alex fills in the fields:

  • Date recorded: today’s date
  • Amount: $7,843.57
  • Memo: Opening Balance

Everything else can be left as-is for now. Alex clicks Save.

The transaction appears in the list. Its row is highlighted in yellow, which means it has not been categorized into a fund yet. That is the next step — but first, Alex records a few recent bills.

Recording Expenses

Alex clicks New Transaction again and records the two most recent bills. Amounts can be typed as plain numbers — -1400 becomes ($1,400.00) once the field loses focus. Here is what Alex enters:

Memo Amount
Rent ($1,400.00)
Electric ($85.00)

Expenses are entered as negative amounts. After saving both, the transaction history looks like this:

All three rows are yellow. FundOS is flagging that none of these transactions have been categorized yet. To sort them into funds, Alex needs to create some funds.
